As unpopular of an opinion as it might be, we must say unequivocally--
We, American men have cultivated our own unique brand of patriarchal and masculine culture, and if we're honest about our current condition, we've cultivated a dangerous culture that has made our country unstable and a lot less safe.
We must, to move forward, be able to admit that we need to re-evaluate how we value, love and raise men in our society.
And beyond that, we must resolve our conflicts without violence. Not just gun violence, but all violence and reframe our place in society to be more than the stakeholders on violence.
We need to show men that there's more value to their lives than an ability to dominate, be violent, or produce-- we need to focus on what it means to be healthy and whole and to resolve conflicts with care in mind.
We do that through awareness and intervention.
Here is a workshop from a great organization "A call to Men" that illustrates how we can mold better men and create a better society! Workshop!
Men are the number one perpetrators and victims of violence in America, where our unique gun culture leads us into a perpetual sprawl of unnecessary deaths and a call for more guns to our already outrageously full pallet.
Men represent 86 percent of firearm suicide victims; they are nearly 7 times more likely than women to die by firearm suicide.
In 2018, there were 22.8 male and 6.2 female deaths by suicide per 100,000 resident population in the United States.
Men commit about 90% of murders worldwide (including but not limited to the use of firearms), according to a 2019 United Nations report.
Gun violence victims also are predominantly male, accounting for 85% of fatalities and 87% of injuries through May, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ninety per cent of violent crime is committed by men
Ninety-eight per cent of sexual offences are committed by men.
men suffering disproportionately from loneliness and having fewer close friends than women
We can change this and we can create a safer world by committing to choose each other over defending self.
